🧴 Compressor Lubrication in HVAC Systems
🔹 Purpose:
Compressor ல் lubrication என்பது மிக முக்கியம், ஏனெனில் அது:
- Friction (உராய்வு) குறைக்கும்
- Wear & Tear தடுக்கும்
- Sealing அளிக்கிறது (compressor piston rings, scroll plates etc.)
- Heat removal செய்ய உதவுகிறது
⚙️ Main Lubrication Methods
1️⃣ Splash Lubrication
🧩 Used in small hermetic / semi-hermetic compressors
- Crankshaft rotation மூலம் oil splashed ஆகி moving parts-க்கு போகும்.
- Oil sump கீழே இருக்கும்.
- Simple & low-cost method.
Advantages:
✅ Maintenance free
✅ Compact system
Limitations:
❌ Not suitable for large capacity compressors
❌ Uneven lubrication at low speed
2️⃣ Pressure (Forced-Feed) Lubrication
🧩 Used in large reciprocating, screw, and centrifugal compressors
- Oil pump மூலம் pressurized oil bearings, crankshaft, pistons ஆகிய இடங்களுக்கு அனுப்பப்படும்.
- System includes oil filter, cooler, relief valve, oil separator.
Advantages:

3️⃣ Oil Mist Lubrication
🧩 Used in screw & centrifugal compressors
- Oil atomized (mist form) ஆக refrigerant gas உடன் சேர்ந்து moving parts-க்கு செல்லும்.
- Mist separators மூலம் oil மீண்டும் recover செய்யப்படும்.
Advantages:
✅ Uniform oil distribution
✅ High-speed compressors-க்கு ideal
4️⃣ Oil Return via Refrigerant
🧩 Common in hermetic systems (like VRF/VRV, split ACs)
- Refrigerant flow-இல் சிறிதளவு oil carried away → system piping-இல் circulated → oil separator மூலம் மீண்டும் compressor crankcase-க்கு திரும்பும்.
Key Components:
- Oil separator (after discharge line)
- Oil return line (to compressor sump)
